Welcome to my fishing update report
5/25/2011
The Striped Bass showed up in mass, have not seen so
many this early in the season. Also we are seeing a lot of Gannets
close to shore, normally they appear in the Fall when the mackerel
are close to shore migrating south. These are birds that dive bomb
into the ocean from a hundred feet in the air to get their meal
diving as deep as 60 feet.

There have been plenty of mackerel in
and outside the harbor mostly small mac's, the stripers eat
them like candy. Most stripers caught have been in the or over the
25lb. class with the biggest to date being 46 inches, 45 lbs.
My regulars showed up once again and
I made believers out of them that it was better to troll then to be
anchored. This morning out of the three fellas fishing two had all
the glory. These are the guys that usually only keep one fish. The
third guy was new and after keeping the first fish caught they were
going to release the second fish when the new guy wanted to keep
one, so now they had two keepers. After releasing the third and
fourth fish the new guy wanted to know how many fish could be kept,
which is two per person. Up comes the fifth striper and the
new guy still had not caught a fish he wanted to take home a second
fish. As all three were discussing releasing the fish the new guy
says, "I have one on the line," one person says he can keep the one
he reels in and they released the newly caught fish, well, sure
enough he lost the fish that he was reeling in and went home with
the one striper.
